Coaching, More than Xs & Os

In building this website and putting myself out of my comfort zone, I reached out to some people I have worked with recently to provide some input to use as testimonials. While I expected some one liners, great content to use (which I got) I also got the following from Professional Cricketer, and friend Georgie Boyce.

‘I arrived on the Sunshine Coast for my fourth summer to play for the Scorchers, where Flewy had just been appointed as assistant coach for the women’s team. As a professional cricketer, I needed to go beyond squad sessions, and that’s where Flewy made a huge impact.

He supported me with additional 1:1 sessions that aligned closely with the work I was doing with my team back home, The Blaze. What really stood out was his communication with my coaches back home, ensuring everything we worked on was consistent and purposeful.

Away from cricket, Flewy became more than just a coach — he became a friend and a key part of my support network. Spending six months away from home can be challenging, and having someone like him around made a big difference.

Even now, we’re still in regular contact, and he continues to have a positive influence on my game. I loved working with Flewy, but even more so, I’ve valued getting to know him as a person. I hope that continues long into the future.’

Aligning with my previous post, coaching is more than just winning and losing games. It is true relationships, players confide in you, you are on an emotional roller coaster with them. Whether you are coaching in the U10s or coaching professional athletes, your role doesn’t change, only the level of skills required to pass on.

So while I only asked Georgie for one line to put on my website, I was stoked and honoured to read what she had written. reminds me that I probably am on the right track in taking this leap of faith, quitting my job, and chasing my passions of being there for my kids and coaching!
